Every product on this site gets a score out of 10 β€” but the number itself doesn't matter nearly as much as the system behind it. We test every GPS tracker on the same 10 dimensions, in the same real-world conditions, using a documented process. This page explains exactly what those dimensions are, how they're weighted, and how you can run a similar test yourself.

Why We Publish Our Methodology

Because a score without a methodology is just an opinion. You should be able to look at any number we publish and understand why it's that number. If a $30 tracker scores higher than a $90 one, we want you to see the actual test data behind that conclusion. Anything less than that is just marketing dressed up as a review.

Scoring Notes

Weights sum to 100%. No single dimension is scored subjectively β€” every number comes from a documented test procedure, and every score is verifiable. If you want to know the raw test data behind any score, read the full methodology.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a score of 8/10 actually mean?

A score of 8/10 means the tracker scored well across most dimensions without any deal-breakers. In practice: it works reliably, the app is responsive, the battery lives up to its claims, and the cost is fair. Scores of 9+ mean the tracker is genuinely exceptional; scores of 6–7 mean it has real trade-offs you should understand.

Do you score budget and premium trackers on the same scale?

Yes β€” same dimensions, same weights. A $15 tracker isn't penalized for being cheap; it's scored on the same criteria as a $200 one. That's how we've found budget units that legitimately outscore premium brands on battery and signal accuracy.

How can I run a similar test myself?

Start with three of our ten dimensions: signal accuracy, app responsiveness, and cost of ownership. Those three explain most of your real-world experience. Test the app for a week before you buy more units, and keep track of what actually breaks.

Why do you weight signal accuracy the highest?

Because a tracker that doesn't know where it is is useless β€” no matter how cheap, how long the battery lasts, or how nice the app looks. Everything else is secondary to the tracker actually reporting the correct location.

Are your scores ever influenced by affiliate relationships?

No. We earn commissions when you buy through our links, but the score is set before any link is created. Products that don't earn well but are genuinely better get higher scores β€” and that's the way we intend to keep it. Read our full policy.
